Movin' on Up
We've graduated from PICU to the Pediatric floor, yet I've never been so paranoid. For the first time since his apnea episode that started our journey, Drew is not connected to a monitoring device. Don't get me wrong, this is a good thing, but I'm so paranoid that he's going to stop breathing again that I can't put him to sleep in his crib. He's not even had an apnea episode since being extubated 5 days ago, but I can't seem to put the memory of that morning behind me. For nearly 7 straight hours until Ryan returned this evening, I've held him. I check to be sure he's breathing constantly. We're going to request the doctors write orders for a home apnea monitor so that we can rest easy once we get home.
Speaking of HOME, we should be headed that way no later than week's end. He's scheduled for a follow-up CT scan in the morning and pending those results, we're not sure why they would keep us here. Please pray that everything checks out okay on the CT scan so that we can take our little man HOME.
We feel so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends. Even though so many of you live far away, you have lifted our spirits each and every day with your thoughts, prayers and encouraging comments. Thank You.

Dear precious family! Just received note of your blog-site today from Eddie Hathcoat. We had not even known there was another Gehrig on the way ! and oh my goodness....it sounds like tiny Drew was certainly sent down to stir things up a little in many lives! We will definitely be checking the webpage every day now and keeping all of you in our special prayers. What an awesome family, and it sounds like you have a tremendous support group of family and friends around you.
We do miss you all here in ol' Bristow - but know you are happy all together and in God's Hands.

Congratulations on your progress. I am a neonatologist in Meridian, MS. Dr. Brinson gave me your website last night. I am very, very good fiends with Chip and Peggy Cooper and Chip had called me when this first occurred and we had discussed the situation. It sounds like everything is working out well, very scarey though. Apnea monitors will drive you crazy. I hope all continues well and your family has been in our prayers up here in Meridian. I am so happy for you that little Drew is doing so much better. I know how it feels to be scared to put him down after such a frightning beginning. Faith had seizures as a baby and I used to dread bedtime because I knew she would be out of my sight. After some time you will be able to overcome the fear and have faith that he will be just fine. You guys will continue to be in our prayers and we are here if you need anything. Hang in there!!

I was a Sacred Heart MOM until mid-October when we moved to New York. April emailed the SH MOMS asking us for our prayers and I am sending {{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}} and prayers to you all and especially to little Drew.

Kristen & Ryan, we admire your strength. We're praying that you'll be headed home soon and that Drew continue's to heal. I'm sure it will be hard to leave all the hospital support, but I'm sure they feel that Drew is ready or they wouldn't release him. Drew's a beautiful baby!

This is all great news. It's awesome that you should be headed home soon. Sounds like the kid has a lot of fight in him.
This is a good thing as I know it will be an uphill battle undoing all that aTm and OSU brainwashing that is happening.
